2016 Year In Review
In the winter of 2014, I created my facebook page and officially branded myself as Melissa Ann Photography. The page mostly functioned as a place to share the millions of photos of my kids with a few other things splattered here and there. Life was busy with full time jobs and raising babies. 2016 was the year that all changed. I didn't really mean to launch myself into a profitable business. It just happened. So fast and with such momentum. I owe it to my clients. They have seen my potential and prodded me to pursue this hobby, even when I have felt like being complacent.
In 2016, I was so excited to be able to see return clients. Is there anything so rewarding? Its neat to take photos for any family, but when a family returns, again trusting you to capture their moments, it is so validating and rewarding. I feel like part of the family. It feels like "home".
In 2016, I had more business then I was prepared to handle. Its a great problem to have. I learned so much about myself and who I want to be as a photographer. I learned that I have to know my value and my limits in order to provide quality. I discovered the kind of work I want to focus on and the kind of work I do not.
I consider 2016 my first real year of being in business. There were moments that were trying, like trying to edit and keep 4 small children alive, but mostly there were moments that made me remember why I love photography so much.
To end this year, I send out very heartfelt thanks to my clients. Thank you for trusting me. Thank you for pushing me. Thank you for molding me. When I look back at my work from the beginning of the year until now, I see how much growth there has been. I owe that to you! I want to thank my family and friends who have encouraged me to try new things and offered advice. I want to thank the other photographers who have shared ideas and critiques. That comradery is an invaluable gift. I want to give the biggest love and thanks to my family. My husband especially. Thank you for allowing me the space and time to grow. Thank you for going along with all of my crazy ideas, even when I know you don't want to. Thank you for not giving me the option to quit.
As I look ahead to 2017, I feel nothing but excitement. I'm excited to grow and take you all along with me!
Looking ahead, I will be focusing primarily on child and family lifestyle photography. (Stay tuned for my next blog "Why to book a Lifestyle session") I will not be booking any weddings or large events at this time. Adding to my services will be fresh 48 and in home newborn sessions.
I wish you all a blessed 2017 full of love and growth. I hope you enjoy this look back. What a great year it has been!
